Ryobi Chain Saw, Model #RY40510

Like most people, I enjoy my home; the yard, a little garden, and some trees. But let’s face it, you need to invest time into it. The grass doesn’t cut itself. Oh how I wish it would.

The trees I usually let go. I have two apple trees, a peach tree, and quite a few miscellaneous ones. Some trees need pruned, some I want to eliminate, and others I would just like to mow around them without getting slapped in the face by the limbs that grow here and there.

I found an easy way to manage my trees. I got a chain saw. Not just any chain saw; I got the Ryobi 40 volt electric Chain Saw, Model #RY40510. Chain saws have been around for a long time. As a kid I remember dad administering the gas and oil. What I remember most was how loud it was. No pun intended; it was deafening.

Ryobi has just what I need in a chain saw. First of all, it has a 40 volt Lithium-Ion battery. If you have ever used an 18 volt cordless drill, then you can imagine what 40 volts can do. That’s over twice the charge. And let’s not forget, Lithium-Ion. It charges up fast and holds its charge well; usually I’m done before it is.

The Ryobi Chain Saw, Model #RY40510, is light weight and has a 12” bar for the chain. That is plenty unless I am going to the woods to chop down big trees. Around the house, I trim, and I cut away trees that sprout up where I don’t want them; I’m not Paul Bunyan.

Another great feature with this chain saw is that it is electric. 40 volts, remember? It is quiet. My neighbors don’t even know I’m cutting. And I don’t have to wear hearing protection in order to keep from going deaf.

One of the areas that I had east of the house had gotten overrun with trees. I don’t mind some shade, but It had gotten so thick that It was no longer inviting. Ryobi to the rescue! Here are some pictures of that project:

In the beginning; see how nature has claimed it?

This is about 1/3 of the way through the project.

And this is complete.  It is easier to cut one down if I change my mind, but it is harder to grow one back if I want them there, so I decided to leave some of the trees. And here is the firewood that I ended up with:

It looks so much better now. I can walk through it and put out some lawn chairs. Maybe have a camp fire or some steak on the grill. Whatever I decide, Ryobi and I have made this a better place for me and my family.

You need to keep tension on the chain so that it stays in the drive gears; otherwise it doesn’t go around. Well, the Ryobi 40 volt chain saw has a chain tensioner that doesn’t require any tools. You just loosen the lock, turn the tensioner, and tighten the lock back down. It is so easy. That’s what I like about this chain saw, it’s light, easy to use, has plenty of power; now if I can just get it to sharpen its own chain. Well I guess you can’t have everything.

When I want to trim something, I just take the Lithium-Ion battery out of the charger, put it in the chain saw, and go cut whatever I want. I no longer put off trimming. I actually like to trim now. Imagine that?

If you have trees to trim or cut, I think you ought to give the Ryobi 40 volt chain saw a look. I’m happy I have mine!
